Wittnauer 242T 'Moon Watch'

€9,500.00

In 1950, the Wittnauer Watch Company was bought by Longines - a move that proved strategically very sound for both companies, with Wittnauer acting as the ‘American’ orientated facet of the brand and gaining loads of popularity in the States.

The reference 242T is one of Wittnauer’s most celebrated chronographs dating to the mid 1960’s given it’s unique aesthetic and moon-related history shrouded in mystery. As the story goes, it supposedly competed at the NASA HQs against the Ω Speedmaster and Rolex Daytona as a potential candidate for the official timekeeping instrument on the upcoming moon mission.

Happy to offer this incredible example of 242T featuring a 38mm screwback steel case and the might Valjoux 72 calibre signed by Wittnauer in completely original and untouched condition, with it’s original Wittnauer steel bracelet. A powerful and rare chronograph with an incredibly special story and look !
